One of my all time favorite stories (and it is just that because I heard it from edit: SOME GUY) was in Japan in 97 when Cully (on the Schwinn Rav 4 team) was afraid of the big jumps and so after a failed attempt to bribe lopes with $5K blamed his mechanic at the time for not cleaning his pedals and faked a mystery rock that would not let him clip in and he lost the race and the title..
