The BACK IN THE DAY post below (about Cully) is not complete bullshit.....but close,

and I am pretty sure whomever told you this story heard it from me.

Cully was not afraid of the big jumps, at all...he was unbeatable that year...he just realized he could win the title and cracked...he was coming back from his deathbed and running it with a pigs heart valve! he was living a dream he thought died when he almost died of a heart attack, cully cracked hard, lopes was playing head games with cully and it worked. So cully asked me in a joking way if Lopes would take cash to throw the race, we had a laugh...I told Lopes the story, he busted cullys balls about it, cully got beat and the legend grew.

Cully did get a rock stuck in his cleat, he blamed drew his mech because Drew was cleaning his cleats out at the start and 'missed' the rock....he was unable to clip in which cost him the race.
